February – A Month of Commemorating the Achievements of Black Americans

The month of February comes and goes quickly with only 28 or 29 days depending on a leap year as in 2013.  When most people think about the month of February, the memories of U.S. Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln generally tend to come to mind.  However, for the more than 30 million Black American citizens of the United States, the month of February is a month of commemoration of Black history and achievement, much of which is unknown to the world.  The achievement of Barack Obama to reach the presidency of the United States was built on a foundation of Black achievement in American education, politics and diplomacy over many previous generations.
